In 2004, the United Schutzhund Clubs of America adopted the RH – Rettungshund or Search and Rescue titling program as designed by the International Rescue Dog Organization (IRO) headquartered in Austria. This is a titling program and should not be confused with mission-ready status.  Mission ready status must be achieved through your local SAR agency and requires a significant amount of handler skills in addition to the dog skills.  This program is a great program to see if your dog has what it takes to become a SAR dog.  You might decide to join a SAR team and continue on with your training.   It’s also a cool thing to do for people who want to get their feet wet but perhaps don’t have the time or inclination to become mission ready.  Similar to IGP, RH is a test of the dogs aptitude for the work.  You can enhance your partnership with your dog as you navigate the challenges that RH presents! ANyone and any breed can do it.
